The hotel’s restaurant is the Michelin-starred de Mondion, and there’s a more casual, less expensive, but still excellent trattoria next door. Each of the 17 rooms, most of them suites, has its own character, and some include a private terrace and hot tub. Set in a little square next to the residence of the Bishop of Malta, this elegant five-star establishment is a converted 17th-century palazzo full of antique furniture and traditional Maltese artefacts. Live like a Maltese aristocrat in the only hotel inside the walls of Malta’s ancient capital. And there’s something for every budget, from a simple three-star on the banks of a sparkling bay to a bust-the-budget boutique with a Michelin starred rooftop overlooking the Grand Harbour. If a trendy designer pad amid lively bars and taste-bud-thrilling restaurants is more your thing, that’s here too. Whether you are looking to chill out by the pool in never-need-to-leave-the-resort luxury, or settle among authentic antiques in the privacy of a historic palazzo, Malta has it. We had initially hired their driver to take us to Casa Ellul from the airport, I believe it was 35 euros he was super interesting etc, however we took an uber back to the airport for less than half. With almost one visitor bed for every ten resident Maltese, there is no shortage of accommodation options in this sun-drenched Mediterranean archipelago. We want to acknowledge Lourane and Remmiel at the front desk - they are both phenomenal people! We had an outgoing flight issue and they assisted us so much with phone calls etc - clearly an asset to this place. The bed was comfortable but they had those typical European hard foam pillows.some may like it though. The only other oddity (in our minds) was the eggs - I've never seen eggs with such a weird consistency and color.unsure what those tiny lumps were either. We think it's due to the drains that run along the wall, it smelled like a sewer so we kept the bathroom door shut the bathroom plumbing needs updating. The location is excellent for walking around, right in the heart of everything! The bathroom had a weird smell, especially after showering. This hotel was a very interesting place - the room was huge and the bathroom had a 'spa' setting. The staff asked us on our way out if everything had been ok with our stay so we explained and they were very apologetic, the customer service was excellent it was just a pity the room didn't live up to expectations. Sadly we expected more from a 5 Star establishment. The beds and pillows were comfortable but we struggled with the lighting in the room, it was just not bright enough. The Dressing Gowns provided were so hard and old looking we decided not to use them, they looked like they needed replacing. In the corner of the room as you walked in on the right there was a lot of dust and a few loose coins in the corner of the floor. The floor was dusty, under the bed there were several mini easter egg chocolates that must have rolled under there the week before during Easter also along with them was a pile of dust. Upon arriving in our room we felt disappointed. ![]() ![]() We were greeted on arrival by charming staff who were curteous, friendly and offered us a drink. ![]() We were excited to be staying at this hotel because of all the positive reviews and the fact it was 5 star we had high expectations. We stayed at the Rosell AX Priviledge hotel in Valletta for 1 night post cruise. ![]()
